In the midst of the familiar West Texas music scene hides a little known yet impressive secret in a band called Down Yesterday. This progressive-alternative band, with commanding sounds compared to Theory of a Deadman and Creed, Down Yesterday will amaze their audiences with completely unique and all original music including the popular “Stay” which was released as a single in 2009 and peaked at #34 in the popular vote of almost 15,000 songs during the MySpace Battle of the Bands.
Band members consist of: lead singer Lance Welch, Ray Zuniza on guitars and vocals, Selso Abalos on lead guitar, Art Casarez on bass, and on drums Sammy Benavides. Five small town personalities have come together to form a big sound and have a reputable fan following, known as the DY Militia. Kudos include an endorsement from Dirtbag Clothing and a top honor with their lead singer Lance being a former contestant on American Idol!
The group was formed in October 2008 and has since had the opportunity to record their first album E.P., at Indian Trail Recording in Dallas with four-time Producer of the Year Alex Gerst, also known for sounds from Faktion, South FM, Fair to Midland, and Seasons After. Down Yesterday is in the process of writing new material, and will be preparing for their second trip to the recording studio in early 2010, just as their second single “3 a.m.” is being played on the internet station Native Noise and at Carlsbad radio station Coyote 107, with Curtis on The Metal Shop.
