Jackson Lee Brooks Band is composed of five members: Bryce Langdon on drums (formerly with Black Eye Shiner), Jared Jones on Base, Jack Bradley on Lead Guitar, Jarrel Brooks sings backup vocals and plays electric rhythm and Tyson Kerby sings lead vocals and plays acoustic rhythm. Local singer & songwriter Sam Watson often joins the band.
All the members have unique styles that blend well, combining original songwriting with their favorite standards. Jarrel, Tyson, and a “ghostly” sixth member of this group, Jason Brooks, do most of the songwriting, and the entire group is very particular of what is accepted lyrically in this band.
Their sound is diverse; choosing not to be labeled as one individual genre. They aren’t specifically ‘country’ and not exactly ‘rock’; however, their sound is far ranging, from low key and somewhat acoustic, to ‘in your face’ electric songs that bear a strong Texas influence. Collectively, they have a true appreciation for the heart & soul of music itself, and make a conscious decision to keep all aspects of what they do ‘pure’, something they feel is lacking in today’s modern Nashville Country sound. Jackson Lee Brooks Band is playing music the way they feel it should be, they play with a conscious attitude, based on intuition & insight for what they think a song needs. “You just have to hear us and call it what you will from that point on.”
Their influences vary from the Eagles, to Creedence Clearwater Revival and Bob Dylan, to Lucero and Band of Heathens, who they played with in Lubbock at the Blue Light. They also list Radney Foster, Ryan Bingam & the Dead Horses, and Mike McClure, whom they were fortunate enough to play with at the last Dottie Hill Cancer Benefit at the Hogpit.
Recently, Jackson Lee Brooks Band was signed with Texas Music World Productions, where they will be recording a five-song demo, one of which will be released as a single. The group’s goal is to have their music heard state-wide. They will be recording their first full album soon thereafter.
Voted Midland Reader’s Choice Awards winner for best band in 2006, Jackson Lee Brooks Band is definitely one to keep your eye on.
